What Woburn Residents Are Saying: Insights from Our May 2025 Community Survey

In May 2025, our campaign launched a community survey to hear directly from Woburn families, educators, and neighbors about their priorities for our public schools. Over 65 people took the time to share their thoughts — and the responses offer a powerful snapshot of what our community values and expects from its elected leaders.

Here are some key takeaways:

Who We Heard From

The majority of respondents were parents or guardians of Woburn Public Schools students, with strong representation from homeowners, taxpayers, and community members. Many respondents wore multiple hats — they’re parents, educators, and deeply invested citizens. Interestingly, 27.2% of respondents were not parents or guardians of Woburn students. As I said in my previous video post, this shows how invested ALL members of our Woburn community are in the future of our schools.

What We Heard: Community Priorities

Responses to “What do you believe are the top 2 priorities for Woburn Public Schools right now?” (66 responses)

When asked to identify the two most important priorities for Woburn Public Schools right now, respondents overwhelmingly focused on:

  • Investing in school facilities and capital upgrades (24 responses)

  • Enhancing student mental health and wellness (23 responses)

  • Promoting equity and inclusive education (19 responses)

Interestingly, since individuals could choose two answers, we can see how many people chose the same 2 priorities. In this view, Enhancing student mental health and wellness and Promoting equity and inclusive education were the most often selected together. Overall, these priorities reflect the emotional and academic support systems families want for their children, while still demonstrating a strong desire for investment in our schools’ physical infrastructure.

What People Want to See Funded

(66 responses)

When asked where they’d most like to see future school investments, three themes emerged:

  1. Additional supports for English learners and special education

  2. New school buildings — particularly in North Woburn

  3. Expanded enrichment programs and clearer communication from the School Committee

This feedback reinforces the importance of inclusive education, modern learning environments, and responsive leadership that keeps the community informed.

Responses to “On a scale from 1–5, how important is it that your elected officials reflect Democratic values like public investment in education, transparency, and equity?” (65 responses)

Interestingly, a striking 81.5% of respondents rated it a 4 or 5 out of 5 in importance that elected officials reflect Democratic values like public investment in education, transparency, and equity.

Even more encouraging? 62 out of 66 respondents said they plan to vote in the next municipal election. That’s the kind of civic energy we love to see.

What This Means for Our Campaign

This survey confirms what I have long believed: Woburn residents are ready to invest in a school system that’s inclusive, transparent, and forward-thinking. The work we’ve done together — from redistricting to early childhood expansion — is only the beginning.

I am running for re-election to keep pushing for the resources, policies, and partnerships our students deserve. And this survey proves our campaign is aligned with what matters most to our community.

Yours in Education,

Jessie
